Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings simultaneously kindle an awareness of human potential for magic and restrict it to fantasy. Advances in studies of new materialism, consciousness, physics, yoga, and object oriented ontology have opened new ways to understand how the human mind—no spirits required—can transform reality. Beginning with a description of how kinds of thinking (attention, intuition, intention) relate to secular magic, the presentation/workshop also includes exercises that allow participants to practice and develop these skills, and concludes by showing why these skills are important in everyday life, for creative projects, and as non-partisan political participation.
